Special
Music Premier To Accompany Christ 25th Anniversary
Celebration
Timothy
Tollefson has composed a musical work in four parts for the
25th Anniversary celebration of Christ
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Tollefson is a professor of Music, specializing in Music
Composition at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato,
Minnesota. He is currently finishing up work on his
doctorate at the Hartt School in Connecticut.
The special
anniversary project began as something entirely different.
Pastor Michael Dale of Christ Lutheran: “About a year ago, I
emailed Tim, who had been my college roommate, about the
possibility of him producing a work in celebration of a new
building project we were considering. It would have been in
conjunction with a dedication service. The building project
fell through because of the sluggish economy. When the
anniversary celebration came along, I contacted him again.”
Professor
Tollefson will be in attendance on October 17, 2010 when
members of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church premier his
work with an ensemble that includes organ, flutes, violin,
hand bells, guitar, bongos, and 4-part choir. The
congregation will even become part of the performance,
singing chorale-style on the last verse with ensemble
accompaniment.
Each of the
four movements of the work based upon the hymn Built On The
Rock, The Church Shall Stand is unique, but unified by a
strong textual theme, and choral treatments. The opportunity
to have a special new work premiered at Christ Lutheran is a
treat and an honor. It is not to be missed.
